Weekly Devotional

“There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and that man was blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from evil.” Job 1:1.
Good character is something that is in short supply today. Many people will wrong someone just to make it to the top. It is hard to know who to trust and who not to trust because of the lack of character. This is true also true among Christians. As the people of God Christians are supposed to be people of great character. However, this is not always the case. The dictionary defines character as “a distinctive quality or trait.” It defines who we are and whether or not we can be trusted.
Job was a man of great character. A man who endured suffering and never found out why. A man who trusted in the Lord and despite his suffering did not sin against God. A man who the Scriptures say was “blameless and upright” (meaning that he was ethically straight) and a man who “feared the Lord and turned away evil” (meaning that his relationship with God motivated him to turn from evil).
Job was a man who is an inspiration to all Christians today. We are called to be people of good character. We are called to be different from the world whose character has went down the drain. Job was a man who was worthy enough to be tested because his character showed he trusted the Lord. It is time to be people who are different from the world. It is time to be people of true godly character.
